BGT-WS2E wykorzystuje zaawansowany mały radar dopplerowski 24 GHz, prędkość kropli jest rejestrowana przez system radarowy 24 GHz. Poprzez porównanie prędkości i wielkości kropli rejestrowana jest ilość deszczu lub jego intensywność. Rodzaj opadów (deszcz/śnieg/deszcz ze śniegiem/deszcz marznący/grad) jest określany dzięki prędkości deszczu. Rozdzielczość do 0,1 mm, bezobsługowa.
