Working Principles

Siphon Rain Gauge:

Rainwater enters through a collector funnel and flows into a float chamber.

A float rises with the water level, moving a pen that records rainfall on a rotating drum with a time-based chart.

When the water reaches a set level (e.g., 10 mm), a siphon tube drains the chamber automatically, resetting the float and pen.

Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge:

Rainwater fills one side of a small, balanced bucket.

Once a preset volume (e.g., 0.1 mm or 0.2 mm) is reached, the bucket tips, triggering an electronic pulse.

The count of tips is converted into rainfall depth, with data transmitted digitally.

Siphon Rain Gauge: Ideal for historical rainfall analysis in meteorological stations


Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge: Preferred for flood warning systems, floods are generally short periods of heavy rainfall, and 0.5 resolution tipping bucket rain gauges are recommended.
